Course: The 30-kilometer running race starts at the Adventure Lodge off Four Mile Canyon, taking runners on a scenic yet challenging route through the Colorado mountains on the iconic Gold Hill Loop. The course starts up Four Mile Canyon, cuts over and up Poorman Rd, then heads up Sunshine Canyon toward the historic mining town of Gold Hill. Relentlessly climbing for just under ten miles the first half of the race will test your lungs! After reaching this high point in the mining town of Gold Hill, participants embark on a quad-busting descent down Four Mile canyon, on winding dirt roads, returning to the Adventure Lodge for a well-earned finish. The race sports 3,000 ft of gain and goes up to 8,500 ft in elevation making this one of the hardest road races in the country!
Aid Station: There will be one aid Station at the top of the climb around 10 miles at the turn going into the descent in the town of Gold Hill. It will have all your fueling, hydration, and snacking needs to restock (maybe some famous Gold Hill General Store chocolate chip cookies too!) Be prepared to carry the rest of your required needs for the duration of the race.
Directions: There is no parking at the race start! Please be aware that runners and participants will need to get to and from the Adventure Lodge without a car. No one other than workers and volunteers will be parking at the A-Lodge. Participants have many options for getting to and from the race though:
Bike: We encourage participants, especially local participants, to bike to the race. We will have ample bike parking!
Bcycle: If you are coming from out of town or don't have a bike, you can rent a Bcycle!
Bus: Runners and participants can take the NB1 City Bus that heads up to Nederland. Just get on at the Downtown Boulder Station and get off at 119 and Four Mile Canyon (stop 20306). Route Itineraryhere.
Drop off: Runners can get dropped off by a friend or an uber/Lyft at Chapman Drive Trailhead. It's is a 1 mile walk or warm up jog down from this drop off area to the A-Lodge.
Shuttle: Last, runners can meet at the Boulder Justice Center parking area. The Adventure Lodge shuttle bus will be picking runners up and shuttling them to the A-Lodge. The shuttle can take 15 people at a time and will be going back and forth from 6:15 am to 7:30 am. The shuttle will be doing pickups approximately every 15 minutes in this time period. If you plan to take the shuttle, please don't wait till the last minute. We want to get everyone up there, but we will be ending shuttles at 7:30.
Getting Home: Folks can bike back down into the city, get picked up at the same location as the drop off. Or, the A-Lodge shuttle will be taking participants down the canyon back to the Justice Center throughout the day after the race.
